Cable News Really Sucks!

One person can make all the difference. For example, since Hillary is no longer a part of the presidential race, the campaigns have hit the snooze button.

I used to look forward with anticipation to each new slice of the American pie lovingly known as the presidential elections every night. Screaming epithets at Chris Mathews and Olbermann had turned me into a rabid dog every evening after 5.

But, now if I have had a taxing day and just can't seem to unwind- I watch Mathews and drift off into dreamland. Olbermann, even with Rachel Maddow is a night filled totally bridled passion.

Perhaps, at this point, anyway, it would be best to become an occupant at the hotels in las vegas until the results are in between Boring and Even More Boring. Unimaginative and Even More Unimaginative.

Let's face it, the race between Clinton and Obama was the gift that kept on giving to cable news.

And without her, cable news, well- it sucks!

The Waynedale Green Alliance is Unlike Any Other Org in Town

You know when an organization is founded there are many reasons to do so. However, what has to be at the soul of a well-meaning organization is heart and passion.

Money doesn't hurt either. And finding the right kinds of promotional products to spread around to get the word out is paramount.

We have been issuing press releases, and doing a lot online to let others know about the mission of the Waynedale Green Alliance. It's difficult because this area of the country is very conservative. If we were in a liberal state, such as California or New York, there might be a different mind-set. Not here, where the economy is going south and people struggle every day just to get the bills paid.

The direct message of the Waynedale Green Alliance is that the ideas of greener living can directly impact the economic bottom line of the community of Waynedale.

That's our message and that is what we are setting out to do.

The Days of Disposable Diapers and Truth

The other day my grandson, Truth, was watching TV and saw a diaper on one of the little babies. He said "MawMaw, I never wore diapers, did I?" I burst out laughing and said to him that he had worn many, many diapers, and that I had changed quite a few of them.

In fact, I have changed diapers for a long, long time. I have found that disposable diapers are a godsend. There is not as much work involved as there is with cloth diapers. The washing them out and using rubber pants. Partially sticking the baby with diaper pins also adds to the fun of cloth diapers. My guess is that they probably have some type of velcro stickers for cloth diapers now.

All I really know is that diapers are here to stay. Luckily, my grandson, Truth trained very quickly and I was thrilled by the event.

Moving Day Might Be On the Horizon!

It appears that I might be moving. Things are changing quickly here, and I am getting ready to take on some new ventures. Still in the same city, and location, but with a different address.

Change is a constant, isn't it? Even when we wish for the same ole same ole!

But, soon, there will be moving boxes, carts, getting rid of the old, and aching joints, and etc. Soon, I will have to get a new telephone system, and a CAT5e for my set. All of these things take up a lot of time and make moving a big challenge.

I would rather say challenge than mess. It just seems so much, well, nicer!

Hopefully, I will not break anything-not talking about dishes or glasses, but bones!

That's the kind of stuff that you worry about at 55+!

Follow Your Dreams- Even as They Change

I love history. As a young person one of my dreams was to go and visit the ruins of Greece. It just seemed so entrancing. The idea of standing at the food of the what might have been the beginning of democracy.

Getting a passport to accomplish that would have probably helped. But, I never have visited Greece, although, it is still up there on my dream list.

Funny thing about dreams, they change as we grow older. Once, I read an article from one of those people whose mission was to help us get in touch with our inner child.

He said that we should think about the things we loved to do as a child and follow those visions. Well, I guess that's cool.

Me, I have other ideas today, and different dreams. My dreams look towards future generations, and a world for them. My work today, I hope, might add to that.

But, hey, that's not saying that Greece isn't still up there.

What Can a Screaming Four Year Old Accomplish?

It is so unfair! Little children have this wild energy. And the older we get the less energy we have. As far as it goes, I have a million things I would like to do that, at least, seem constructive to me-- and having a ninth of the energy that my 4 year old grandson has would help me get some of that stuff done.

Tell me, what good does running through the house screaming at the top of our lungs accomplish? Is it good for the environment? Does it further the cause of good health care for Americans. Does it make a good soup for dinner? The answer, of course, is NO!

It also does not help a poor soul lose weight. Now, diet pills can do that. Good nutrition coupled with exercise can do it. And, last, but certainly not least, chasing a four year old screaming grandson can do it.

There, that's the positive outcome!

What is it about Turning 55 +?

For many reasons I looked forward to turning 55. Most of all it meant I had a better chance of turning 56 ---oh-- and then!

Well, in this city there are a few restaurants that give senior discounts at 55+- I think that is cool, even though I don't eat out that much. And there are bunches of other services that say they give 'senior discounts'. Now, I don't know what criteria they use but on the whole these services all have different ideas of what a 'senior' is .

Some say, like AARP- seem to think that turning 50 brings you to seniordom! I just coined that word by the way. Lots of life insurance rates are based on senior status. Some aren't!

Some still hold to the golden 65 as the golden age of the Senior- and that is when you get your discount.

Frankly, I am quite amused by the whole thing. And still want to know why they have different ages?

Where Did My Waist Go?

My grandsons love Playstation and have PS2
to go with them.

They could spend the whole day pumping those little remotes, or sitting in front of computers playing games. No wonder kids are having trouble with weight control.

When I was a kid my mother never saw me from June to September. We were outside playing ball, climbing trees, and running in the woods that was a big part of the neighborhood I grew up in.

Too bad that those days are gone. Too bad my waist went with it.

Let's Do Better

In my first career I had several admin jobs! In those days they would hire you on as a manager trainee out of high school and you would train under someone who knew 'the ropes' and be promoted on and up.

Ten years later I got my first degree in business administration. I will never understand the worth of that degree. First, of all, I never had a job after that that was really much better than the ones I had had before- meaning- now I had to have a degree to get a job I could have gotten before just being trained by someone who knew 'the ropes'

Perhaps it is because things are so high tech now that people don;t learn in the same way.

But, I don't really think so. I still think that higher education is one way to keep people who don;t have the resources to go to college 'in their place'

We need to do better.

Get Used To it!

I love my new prescription eyeglasses! Although I have put off getting them for a long time, my daughter finally pushed me into it by paying for them as a gift for my birthday. The best part was the gift of the prescription sunglasses along side of them.

Now, I can see to drive in the sun, can see to open the door
lock and can see to work on the computer all at the same time. For years, I just did the Walgreen's reading glasses thing- and actually, to be honest, still do at times. It is a real adjustment getting used to trifocals.

But, life is an adjustment, all the time. So, the best thing to do is 'get used to it'!!!

Hope is All We Got!--- Sophia Portrillo- The Golden Girl!

Even though the health care system in America definitely needs help- there is no doubt that we do have the finest medical research and techniques in the world.

Because of the wonders of modern medicine I now have more energy than I have ever had, even after brain surgery

The medical diagnostics practiced in the United States is nothing short of fantastic and I will be the first to say it- and shout it to the rooftops.

Now, our health care system- that's a different story and one that will not be the subject of this post.

Hopefully, and I mean with a lot of hope in there, our next President will do something to make it better. After all, for many of us, hope is all we got!

GET a Computer, For God' s Sake!

When my son, Chris was sixteen he wanted a computer. At that time AOL was still charging by the hour, so it was a wholly different experience than it is now. Who could have foreseen 16 years ago the amazing changes that have taken place in our world due to the innovation of personal computers and the Internet - little lone the blogosphere, itself.

Yesterday, I was talking with a person who wants to work with me on a project that is in the works. I asked her if she had a computer. She said no because her husband was sick-not working and a computer was the last thing on her mind.

Today, computer rentals should be in line if you want to do business. EVeryone should be computer-literate. Even us 'old uns!

Can Sweat Detoxify YOUR Bod?

I don't know about you, but I get lots of spam. The spam filter just doesn't get everything and I suppose along the way my other email address has been passed around for a long time.

It seems that lately all I get is emails and ads about cleansing your body, detoxifying your body. The colon seems to be the in thing as far as cleansing is concerned. Frankly, I don't think anyone needs to know anything about my colon except me and my doc--so what to do about detoxifying?

Well, I have also read that a good sweat will help get rid of all those poisons that burn their way into your organs. I thought that meant -o, um---sweating it up with the oldies. But, the article I read had a long complicated bath regimen, using varied herbs and dead animals of one sort or another.

Maybe, I will just sit in my Lazyboy, watch Chris Matthew make a fool of himself and stare at my wine rack!

In this weather that should stir a sweat!

Watermelon Will Put a Little Love in Your.........

Here, a few days after the fourth of July and a news item comes out that Watermelon might have the same effects as Viagra!

Just think what might have happened if all those fellas out there on the 4th had known this great news!!

No Seeds!

It's All In the Way You Look at It!

Teenagers have always had skin problems, from time immemorial. But, old people? Well, sure they say we have rosacea and cool stuff like that. Heck, I always thought that rosacea was that nice healthy blush on a good-lookin' ladies cheeks. Not a disease.

But, alas, I was wrong again!

Being a teenager is hard enough, what with all the raging hormone, peer pressure, and people looking at you with envy, saying weird things like, 'Wow, you have your whole life ahead of you!" When all you can think about is the fact that you can't hook up with anyone of either sex, and your next natural acne treatment.

But, that's cool, at least you don't have to worry too much about shingles.

Driving HOME From the Fireworks

When I was growing up in this fair city, the fireworks were in the park about 10 miles from my house. All of the families would line up their lawn chairs in the alley and watch the rockets red glare right from their homes, actually- kids would run around with sparklers and then everyone would go to bed.

This year the 'city' fireworks were on the north side of town. That is where all of the improvements go here. The south side of my city has been neglected and that is putting it quite kindly.

It took us almost an hour to get home what with all the traffic jams and line ups--the fossil fuel burning was a sight to behold in itself.

Me, I dreamed of golfing with Callaway golf clubs and the old days of sitting in an alley with neighbors I knew and living what I did not realize then - was the good life.
